yeast help!

hi all,im new to home brewing and have just made up my first batch of "real ale" from a kit. i think i may have made a mistake though as i stirred the yeast in before reading the packet which says sprinkle it on top! will it make a difference? should i start again? thanks in advance matt

I think it's actually better to stir it in a bit as it'll rehydrate a lot quicker.

is it best to keep the lid clipped down or not?

Don't worry about the lid. You can fit an airlock if you wish (just what I prefer) but left loose or clipped all but a couple of cm will be just fine. All you are aiming for is to allow the CO2 pressure to escape and keep nasties out
