confusion with gravity levels..

alright, this is my second kit, and the OG said it should be at 1.046-1.052, i ended up with 1.058... i decided to go ahead with it anyway... then after in the primary for about a week, i moved it to my carboy (where i forgot to add water to the top, until i realized about 4 days later .. ughh) so it has been sitting there for just under 3 weeks (2 weeks with the extra water added, and then the few days without..) and ya, i checked the FG and it turned out at 1.008, and the recommended fg is 1.011 - 1.018. I dont know for sure, but did i screw this up? should i just dump it? any advice, words.. lectures? would be appreciated! thanks, Lennon

Sounds like it should be fine to me, you had a higher than expected OG and you diluted that, what's the issue? You're probably back about where you should have been.
Why would you dump a beer just cos you can't measure exactly how much alcohol is in it?
Just drink it, I bet it will turn out fine, other mistakes excluded.

alright thanks, i just didnt know is all. hopefully it turns out fine! i'll bottle it very soon and in a few weeks we'll see!
