Bottle Conditioning
Bottle Conditioning
Is there a (relatively) fool proof method for getting the yeast to compact down nicely at the bottom of the bottle? With AG#1 it's had a couple of weeks in 2ndary, then a week bottled and sat at room temp, before 2 weeks in the fridge.
It looks nice and settled on the bottom after being in the fridge but immediately starts swirling round the brew again when pouring.

It's pretty much all in the strain of yeast that you use, for compactness I like T-58 and S-04

Re: Bottle Conditioning
I almost used a T58 on Friday. Should I be saving it for a high gravity brew. What would you recommend it for?6470zzy wrote:It's pretty much all in the strain of yeast that you use, for compactness I like T-58 and S-04

Re: Bottle Conditioning
I picked it up with about 10 others (4 different types) no real plan but thought as it has a high alcohol tollerance, maybe a Chritmas brew about 7% plus

Re: Bottle Conditioning
I was wondering if it would sediment well.................sounds like it does. what's the strongest brew you have used it in. I tend not to brew above 5%

Re: Bottle Conditioning
You haven't lived until you have gone above 7%
that is about what I have done with this particular yeast. And yes I find that it does sediment well. Just as an aside If you do want to ever go above 7% then I suggest that you start out with your yeast of choice depending on the beer style and after a few days repitch with Lalvin K1V-1116 wine yeast. If you are ever after a nice barley wine then this is the avenue to take. The K1V-1116 will finish out a barley wine nicely

Re: Bottle Conditioning
AG#1 was an SL clone so used US05. Had a bottle of TEA beforehand and whilst I managed to disturb the yeast (deliberately I might add) it just broke up into clumps, rather than the cloudy wispiness of the HB.
Re: Bottle Conditioning
Bottles of TEA have Safale 04 in them!
