Fixby Gold Sugar...?
Fixby Gold Sugar...?
I reckon I’ve got less than a week before I bottle my first batch of Fixby Gold. Even a little sip from the trial jar just before second fermentation has all the tell tale signs of a very nice pint.
Trouble is: I’m undecided on what sugar to use in the bottles. Shall I use brewers’ sugar or light spraymalt? Hmmmm
Thanks all…………….hc

In terms of taste it won't make any difference. Spraymalt is less fermentable so for the same weight will produce less carbonation. Think of it as an expensive way of adding less priming sugar.
Best wishes

I,ll add to that.
Actually drinking the above mentioned fixby gold brewed with added spray malt, primed with 1/2 tspoon normal sugar in bottles ,a cracking pint.
Theres some good advice on this friendly site, its all about trial and error.
Patience my friend is the answer.

If you tie a piece of buttered toast to a cats back and drop it from a building, it hovers just above the ground rotaing slowly.
Re: Fixby Gold Sugar...?
It was bit too bitter for my liking but overwise this is the tastiest brew that I have done, its nearly all gone now

Re: Fixby Gold Sugar...?
I'm not a fan of normal table sugar in my pints at all, I use spraymalt only at this stage, it'll make almost no difference, but it will make a difference........it's up to you.
Re: Fixby Gold Sugar...?
i use demarera is think it adds that little caramel hint but i maybe wrong as its only my sixth kit but noticed the same slight taste in all my brews to date
very nice i must say

Re: Fixby Gold Sugar...?
Thank you all. I went with bog standard brewers sugar in the end.
Now…
This question might uncover my inexperience, but hopefully it reveals I am a keen and willing home brewer.
I have just bottled the Brupak Fixby Gold which in a month I am certain I’ll be enjoying. I’ve worked out its percentage has reached about 4.3% which I am very happy with.
I was wondering whether the fermentation that occurs over the next month in the bottles with the extra ½ teaspoon of sugar raises this percentage to any significant degree.
In other words: Shall I measure again with a hydrometer when I pour out a pint of beer? Or is there a “thumb suck†figure one can add to the FG from the fermenting vessel to gauge the (possible increased) strength of the beer I will be drinking from the bottle?
Many thanks all again……….hc

Re: Fixby Gold Sugar...?
at that level of priming you are adding around 0.2%, so it will be around 4.5% on drinking.
