AG#4 A bad day making bitter

Using the recipe here

the grain bill

I started at 8.00am and due to leaking around the element finally got the water going at 10.00. In the meanwhile I gave lancssteve a ring, as he was off work, to see if I could borrow a boiler. So brought his stuff over to make it more shiny at mine. By the time he came over I had sorted the leak so I kept brewing and left him to it.

One stuck mash and a lot of tipping hot wort later I finally got to the point where I could boil and...

I am an idiot #-o

Wort goes in before plugging in. Bucket trashed along with the washers and the outer fixing, element covered in plastic.

Fortunately Steve had finished tarting up his boiler so that was available:

I collected around 18l or wort but have no OG as yet as I dropped the hydrometer. I've had better days

A sample of wort from the top of the boiler is in the fridge so when my new ones arrive I'll measure that for a rough idea. On the plus side the wort is fermenting OK so far.

So any advice on a new boiler?

Yes, I think I need something with stronger idiot proofing :)

OG approx 1044 from stored sample, down to 1011 @ 17 deg C yesterday evening, wort tastes OK, and I haven't managed put Stu off AG. So that is a relief.
