Re: Am I on a suicide mission!!!!
Are you sure it's 240L and not 240 EBC. They aren't the same.
Re: Am I on a suicide mission!!!!
Just my thoughts, but I reckon you'll be making a beer there that is really sickly sweet and cloying. The maximum recommended for 120L in a batch is 15%, and you have that then some more 60L
and like Steve, I think you have 120L and 60L Crystal (which is roughly 240 EBC and 120 EBC)
never heard of 240L Crystal.

Re: Am I on a suicide mission!!!!
Garth, you are correct. both values are EBC not L. One says dark crystal malt the other says Crystal Malt. Both from barely bottom. Oh and the thinkin behind it.....none it was beer induced and i wanted to get rid of it off my shelf. Im getting confused using beersmith descriptions. So i have 1kg of crystal malt (60L, EBC120) and 0.5kg of Dark Crystal(120L,240EBC).Is that correct?

Sounds about right. I have some 240EBC crystal, I really like it, maybe use it in smaller quantities first. I find 200-300gms give a very prominent taste in a best bitter of around OG1050. 1.5kgs is way to much from my estimation.

Seems too much to me too. Sarah Hughes is 15% crystal on the last recipe for it I saw and that's as far as I'd want to go.

I agree with the others,
This is going to be might sickly in these amounts,..
I'd drop it back bu lots!
I use no more than about 150-200 grams in most beers unless i am following a proper recipe.

Re: Am I on a suicide mission!!!!
baz, I quite often use the same grain bill in my beers just different hops. It has both light and dark crystal in it and gives a good colour and non-overpowering sweet maltiness with a decent body when mashed at 67-68'C
for a 23 litre batch I would generally use
5kg pale
500g torrefied or wheat malt
300g dark crystal (120 EBC)
150g light crystal (60 EBC)
it should give an OG of 1054.
