Steraliseing water for kit brewing

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Steraliseing water for kit brewing

Post by Samson » Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:57 pm

I'm wanting to steralise the water I use when making my kits to try and make sure I get the best possible pint, am I right in thinking all I gotta do is get a 25ltr water container and pop in a crushed up Camden tablet about a hour before I add it to my fv

Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction and make sure I'm going to be doing this correctly

Why not just boil it (and then let it cool)?

25ltrs is a lot of water to boil and it would take forever to cool down

Yes, just use the crushed campden tablet. You are not really sterilising the water. You are eliminating the chlorine and chloromines but your beer will be much the better for it. It doesn't need an hour - it acts pretty much instantly.
