CHLORINE

Post by speedtripledan » Sun Oct 31, 2010 12:25 pm

I work in the hot tub pools industry and have access to very cheap chlorine supplies.

25g of the chlorine will take the level in 500gallons of water up to 10ppm+ what levels are the regular sanitizers working at ? i use the chlorine to sterilize everything now purely due to cost (free)

The tip of a teaspoon worth in 5 gallons sends it of the scale

Is there a reason i shouldn't use it ? for my brewing gear ?

Off flavours, needing to rinse, dilution amounts would be the main reasons.

Considering how cheap and effective it is to buy generic Oxy as your cleaner and then star san as your no-rinse sanitiser I see no reason to use things that cause off flavours and require rinsing when a no-rinse sanitiser is cheap and easy to get/use

You can use it just dose your vessels with sod. met and boiling water after rinsing that will neutralise the chlorine.

Not found any off flavors yet, i always rinse what ever cleaner i,m using and most of the bought cleaners / sanitizers i have used in the past have chlorine in anyway ? not used starsan or oxy seemed expensive to me when i can get hold of 5kg of chlorine for £22 at the moment.

Supermarket "value" thin bleach may work out a bit cheaper but it is pennies either way.
