snpa - extract brew

Post by Immy's Dad » Sat Mar 31, 2007 8:55 pm

Anyone care to give me some ideas as to how to put together an SNPA using extract?

I guess I'm not going to get really close until I go all-grain, but a close approximation would be splendid!

Thanks chaps!

Actually, with the large amount of flavor and aroma hops, and the subdued maltiness, I think SNPA is a pretty good brew to make with extract.
I know there's been several recipes posted here, and there are many on the net, butI made one with the following recipe:

SNPA
20liters

3/4 lb Crystal 60L
1/2 lb Carapils (to make up for the high attenuating yeastt)
7 lbs Liquid malt extract or about 5.5 lbs DME pale
Magnum hops for bittering
.5 oz. Perle hops around 30 min boiling
1 oz. Cascade at 10 min
1-2 oz. Cascade at 0 min

Safale US-56 ale yeast or WLP 001
Shoot for 37 IBUs total
OG should be around 1053-1057

That should ferment quickly and be ready to drink within a couple weeks in bottle.

Have fun with it...hope this helps. I think you'll have a hard time going wrong with a SNPA clone so long as you dose it with lots of Cascade. I would be careful with Perle hops, though. In higher doses "I've heard" they can be harsh.

Cheers!

Thanks guys! I only have spray malt (light) at the moment. Would this do? Do I swap for exaxtly the same amounts? (I know what I mean!).

Are cascade readily available?
