Steel Gold IPA

Post by Mattb » Sun Jul 10, 2011 11:22 pm

This was my first all-grain brew. And it was a catalogue of mistakes, but the end result is a beautiful, potent, golden ale.

Just goes to show.

I've called it Steel Gold IPA, because it's golden coloured, brewed in Sheffield, and very strong.

Pictures and full details here: Steel Gold IPA

7kg Golden Promise Pale Malt
35g Challenger Hops (90 min boil)
35g Challenger Hops (60 min boil)
30g Citra Hops (10 min boil)
1tsp Irish Moss (10 min boil)
20 Citra Hops (30 min steep after boil)
45g Citra Hops (dry hops after 5 days in FV)

Brew length: 24.1 litres
OG: 1.061
FG: 1.011

Hi Matt! Sounds like a tasty brew there.

I read your blog where you mention the post boil OG being 1032. Did you adjust that reading for the sample being hot?

If the sample you took was very hot when you took the reading then that would explain why you got the 1061 reading after you had cooled the wort.

You can get charts or there is software where you can input the temp of the sample and your reading and it will convert to the OG of the cooled wort.
