Oxiclean Dilution

Post by Western Brewer » Tue Apr 24, 2007 9:35 am

Just got some of the cheap stuff as pictured on DaaB's site and wondered what sort of dilution rate you chaps use in say a cornie. Got my second and it's got a few stains inside. Read the Oxi-clean thread but couldn't see a dilution rate.
The tub's got all sorts of diferent rates on it, so not sure which to use.

I used one scoop (same as a heaped tablespoon i believe) with a kettle of boiling water, you just need to swirl it arond to make sure it gets everywhere, worked for me :D

The manuals for Oxyclean, and the commercial type products of the same vein (pbw, brewing oxi) all say not to use boiling water. I'm not entirely sure why, but i notice this on them.

Perhaps Steve Flack knows.

DaaB wrote:Delboys solution sounds fine, I tend to go for a full soak when the cornis are new and use around 4 heaped tablespoons in (19L) hot water when they are new but use around 1 in 5L and swill it around for cleaning the kegs out after use although more often than not I just use soda crystals for light cleaning.
Do you remove and soak the seals and posts in oxyclean, or do you boil the posts with seals left on?

Also, do you sanitise the dispense line by adding some Iodophor, pressurising to 3psi and dispensing?

After you've used the oxyclean in a cornie and then flushed the keg out, take a piece of kitchen paper and give the inside of the cornie a quick wipe down. Then look at the colour of the paper

And your point is?

Would Iodophor be okay to sanitise the kegs?

When you say "push", I assume you mean under CO2 pressure?

Sorry DaaB, I see you did mention Iodophor in your post - I obviously didn't read it thoroughly enough!

So, you don't use oxyclean on your cornies? I thought you were a big fan of oxyclean (not sure why I think that? :? )
