Question about turbo cider

Post by Steeev » Fri Apr 21, 2006 2:53 pm

When the cider has finished fermenting in, say an old 5L PET bottle, do I have to syphon the cider into a new bottle to clear, or can it be poured using a funnel?
Does turbo cider go orf when oxygenated as beer does?

Cheers.

Yup, siphon it.

lol!

Thanks Reg.

Saying that, have you noticed 2L of cider vinegar costs a lot more than 2L of Strongbow ... Hmmm.

Hang on lads - I've got a great idea!

Steeev,
I am now brewing batches of 15 litres ago.
I always syphon into cleaned bottles.
Clearing ....... what the hell is that  .
My batches are consumed within 72 hours.
Even less if we have F1, footie and rugby all on the same weekend  :stun .
Gearing up for the World Cup now...... first target is 30 litres per week, building to 50 litres if England get into the final :( .
Who said no way , jose    .
Well we can always drown our sorrows :( :D :P :stun .
Cheers,
Q ;)

An after thought Steeev and DaaB,

If England are dumped out, l could always turn the turbo cider into cider vinegar and make lots of dosh :P .

There'd be enough sour grapes, we wouldn't need bad apples. :)
Just made a 4L batch. My hydrometer barely dips in it. 1058 SG...
Mind you I did follow the recipe from memory, not printed word. :stun

Steeev, WOW, make sure you drink that brew sat in a nice chair, preferably a chair fitted with seat belts and do not forget the crash helmet :o :D

DaaB, sounds a real danger that brew. Best drink it quick.
Happy drinking :stun

LOL!
Yeah, smells really nice at the mo.
I guess maybe 150g glucose in 4L is a bit too much... Unless Sainsbury's apple juice is just really sweet.
What's wrong Daab... Does it turn unstable if left for a while? Have you been using Nitro Glycerine as finings again??? :D

Sounds like a 'character' cider we have in these ere parts called cheddar valley from thatchers.
As my mate leroy says not so much cheddar valley more like hinkley point (another local 'attraction' ) due to the glowing orangeness.
Turbo cider drinkers beware .....

I manage to get aroung the 6.5% mark in rocket fuel strength from my turbo cider batches :stun .
Thats about enough for me and the boys, as we do tend to work on an "empty everything" policy :stun . Always concerned it may go off if it is left :stun .

Great weekend of footie and F1 and all turbo cider gone again, what a surprise :stun .
Was up early on Saturday to start the next batch of 15 L, should be ready for May day holiday. Who needs an excuse for a p*ss up :stun .
Today is the worst job of all, washing the bottles, and there are a lot :( .
 Still l did hide 2 L away for this very occasion  .
Better get started then, cheers,
Yes, a slurp first and then wash, wash, wash :o  B)

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ Apr 23 2006, 10:04 PM)I remember 'necking' a pint of 14% NewForest cider after 3 pints of ale at a beer festival  once (I didnt like the taste much but refused to throw it away so held my breath and went for it). This had the effect of making my legs drunk but didnt effect my thinking, I can remember stumbling to the bus stop with a completely clear head, it was all very strange. :stun
I achieved the same effect with codeine and Holsten Export at the Bierfest in Battersea a few years back.. :out

Do you provide a send-away bottle cleaning service quaffter? Sounds like you're getting enough practice :D

Steeev,
If I ever give up my day job, I think I may have found an opening :P .
Finished the washing and I have the most sterile hands in my patch    .
You could pick any orifice and not transfer a single germ :o .
Well DaaB would disagree :o ,OOh, yes, he would say use diluted bleach and you can make that claim    .
DaaB, I ain't sticking my fingers full of diluted bleach up any where mattie ;).

Yet to try bleach DaaB, will sometime ;)

(have I blown it again, naa, DaaB is alright  )

i made a batch of turbo once and added a pound of sugar per gallon (made 3gals). at the time i didnt work out the potential alcohol but it worked out in the end being around 10%.
forgetting this me and a mate sat down and had 2 pints whilst the girls were getting ready to go out. 20mins and 2 pints later going out of the door we were totally smashed.
goes without saying that after a few pints out also we were in a bit of a state

damn powerfull stuff but it was luvly

It's so easy compared to beer-making..
Imagine if lager was a fruit... :pink

I might get 4L of orange juice next time and make "sumthin' for the laydeez"
