Whilst in my local shop to get some gas I spotted this kit in the half price bargain bin and thought what the hell. Its a little out of date (Dec 06) so it will need a new packet of yeast to be on the safe side.
Just wondering if anyone had tried this kit? Due to barrel constraints it may be a few weeks before I set it going so would be interested in hearing anyone's opinions.
Will be interesting to see if I wasted a fiver or found a total bargain
Yup, that's the one. Sounded interesting to me and at a fiver worth the gamble. And besides its apparently "The obvious choice after a dreary day of digging in the gold mine."
Interesting. I'm a massive fan of German rauchbiers. In Alaska they make a Smoked Porter, and other smoked beers pop up in the US and (strangely) Japan too. The flavour is imparted by smoking the malts, sometimes alongside cheese, ham or even fish!

being a Morgans Retailer in Australia i must say they are a great kit .with the yukon though only top up to 20 ltrs as this will give it more complexity and body ,its the sort of tipple you would have sitting around the fire on a winters night after a nice stew. but can be quite sickly if you have to many. one or two now and then is nice.
for a fiver that about 15 bucks australian thats what we sell them for anyway but i guess imported kits are a bit more in the uk.
you got a nice one there you won,t be dissapointed if you make it up and use a us 56 with it for that american feel or safale for a british note. great allrounder that one
Thanks for the info Richard, I'm looking forward to trying it, just need to clear out some keg space first (it's a hard life )
Interesting to hear about the price difference as it would normally be a tenner if in date, I guess another example of the "interesting" pricing policies we see so often in blighty
