Brewing Now!!!

Post by Ianb » Sun Jun 03, 2007 12:01 pm

Well, I hadn't intended doing a brew today, but as SWMBO was still in bed, and I was enjoying the morning sunshine, I decided, spur of the moment thing, to get brewing.

Currently, as I type, the following is in the mash tun

3.7Kg Optic malt
0.6Kg Medium Crystal.

Infusion mashing, twenty minutes into a 90 minute mash. Hit 66 Deg C spot on this time  :D

So, the question is how to hop?

I've got 100 g of East Kent Goldings (5.6%)
about 10-20g challenger (5.6%)
about 50g Hallertau Mittlefruh (3.0%)
about 50g Tettnanger (4.0%)
and 48g of cascade (AA unknown)

I'd thought about 40g of EKG's once the wort is up to the boil, boiled 45 minutes, then adding 25g of cascade for the last 15 minutes , and 10 g of each when the boiler is turned off, leaving to stand for thrity minutes before transfering to fermenter and trying to cool.

Anyone comment on this beofore I commit and do it anyway???

Cheers

Ian

Thanks Daab!

Boil is now half way in, EKG's are in.

Had a slight boil over before the hops went in, just a case of getting used to the new temp controller I think.

Now achieved a nice rolling boil with 55% power, so that's ok then! 8)

What could be better than brewing on a nice day, with a pint of Dark mild in ones hand?
