Spraymalt or Spraymalt and Brewers Sugar or Wot?
OK so a KG of spraymalt seems to be the best option with a one can kit but if one is making a budget brew it's another six quid odd onto the price. Is it worth using half spraymalt and half brewers sugar? Or just plain ole T&L, what will the differences be? Are there any other options? Brown Cane sugar etc.

I've just tried making up a kit with a mix of glucose (brewer's sugar) and spray malt. I had a little sip when racking it from primary, and it tasted very cidery - not good. I'd stick to 100% spraymalt.
I think an extra couple of quid for to make 40 pints much better is worth it!

This could be acetaldehyde, a natural by product of fermentation that is re-absorbed by the yeast in the days after fermentation, it usually is described as having a green apple flavour. IMO this is why it's a good idea to leave your yeast in the primary FV for a few days after fermentation.I've just tried making up a kit with a mix of glucose (brewer's sugar) and spray malt. I don't think theres much problem with substituting some of your malt extract with brewing sugar, not much though. It will lighten the body and will taste less malty than if you use malt extract. Using a kilo of T&L probably won't turn out a good beer.
But like stonch said its only a couple of extra quid for the extra malt, mere pennies a pint.
