Re: Bengal lancer
From the brewer's mouth: http://byo.com/stories/beer-styles/arti ... m-the-pros
Seymour's all-grain clone recipe
6 US Gallons = 5 Imperial Gallons = 22.7 Liters
Grainbill:
98% = 11.78 lb = 5.3 kg, Two-row Pale Ale Malt (Maris Otter would be perfect)
2% = .22 lb = 100 g, English Crystal Malt (70-80°L)
Mash at 67° C until converted
Boil 90 minutes
Hops:
1.5 oz = 43g, Fuggles, 90 minutes
1.5 oz = 43g, Goldings, 90 minutes
1 oz = 28g, Goldings, 5 minutes
.5 oz = 14g, Goldings, dry-hops added to secondary fermentor one week before bottling/kegging
.5 oz = 14g, Target, dry-hops added to secondary fermentor one week before bottling/kegging
Add a pinch of gypsum in boil kettle to make the hops pop. Irish moss near end of boil for clarity.
Yeast:
Fullers strain, from a bottle culture, White Labs WLP002, or Wyeast 1968. Ferment at 64-72°F/18-22°C.
Stats assume 75% mash efficiency and 75% yeast attenuation:
OG: 1.052
FG: 1.013
ABV: 5%
IBU: 50
COLOUR: 8° SRM/16° EBC
Prime bottle/cask with ½ cup sugar, boiled with a bit of water.
Store 1 week at fermentation temperature, then 3 weeks at 50-60°F/10-16°C.
FULLERS BENGAL LANCERAt Fuller’s, we brew our English-style IPA using pale ale malt with a very small amount of crystal malt (about 2%) in the grist. We use Fuggles and Goldings hops as main kettle bittering hops, Goldings as a late kettle hop, Goldings and Target as dry hops.

Re: Bengal lancer
i brewed this recently. same OG, yeast and hops but a different hop schedule (i just made this up):
50 EBU
Target: 12g 90min
Fuggle: 33g 90 min
EKG 33g 30 min
EKG 33g 10 min
Dry hopped 33g EKG + 20g Target at 3 days, finished at 1011, bottled at 9 days
it came out great. i did a side-by-side comparison with a bottle of Fullers BL and they weren't identical but they were close enough. mine definitely more bitter and more hop aroma - no bad thing imho. good beer!

And the addition of Target as one of the dry hops is, for me, why it doesn't quite hit the spot. Target is a good bittering hop but when I used it as a single hop brew it was just too harsh. Having said that I have been conditioning now for 3 months and the last one I had was much mellowed. Can't see a brewery like Fullers conditioning for that length of time.
Have harvested the yeast from some bottles though and it is now churning through a Fullers London Porter clone as I type.
I am "The Little Red Brooster"

Drinking: Southwold Again,
Up Next: John Barleycorn (Barley Wine)
Planning: Winter drinking Beer

Re: Bengal lancer
Hello,
has anyone brewed the 'Seymour' version and if so what was the result?
I'm planning to brew this beer in the winter - ready for next year...
