Pointers Please

hi
Having just lost my latest brew to an infection i have decided that for my next one which i plan to start this weekend, I will sanitise anything and everything which comes anywhere near, this will include the dogs if they are silly enough to come close will sanitising is going on  .
I have also found a 1993 edition of wheelers homebrewing and was interested to read that he suggests simmering the kit with a few pints of water for a few minutes before piutting into the fermenter.Do you think i should try this? or have kits moved on since then and i might end up inpairing the kit in some way. any other pointers that you can give will be gratefully recieved.

I always used to boil kits when I did them, it's not going to do any harm if you do.

I tend to stand my kits in some hot water for a bit to soften them, I don't boil them though.

Careful with the sanitation, you can go too far the other way and the left over bleach/solution will kill your yeast and make your brew go pear shaped...

Wash wash and wash again ! :D

I tend to boil my kits. The main reason being if using spray malt you can get rid of the large clumps more easily with heat being applied. It also sterilises everything too, which is nice.
