Oxi Whiz
Oxi Whiz
Hi,
Bought some Oxi Whiz from the local £1 Emporium - Question is how many scoops should I be using for a 25/30lt FV?
Also does it need to be mixed with a little warm water to get it to dissolve properly?
How long should I leave it, FV was cleaned after previous brew?
Cheers,

Re: Oxi Whiz
I use the same stuff and when cleaning out FV's go with the following.
Fill the FV with about 5-7 litres of hot water.
Add 2-3 scoops of Oxi.
Fit lid to FV and give it a very good shake, VERY good.
Open lid to let gas vent, the Oxi produces lots of gas.
Leave alone for the Oxi to do it's thing for 15 mins or so.
Turn FV upside down so the Oxi can get to work on the "top" part of the FV and leave (I can do this as I have a bottom tap on the FV which I can open when the FV is inverted to allow gas to escape)
Leave inverted for 15 mins.
Put FV back right way up and then get my hand in there with a microfibre cloth and give the entire inside surface a good wipe.
Drain Oxi, rinse well with cold water.
Allow FV to drain and dry completely before storing away.
Oxi is a cleaner only, not a sanitiser BTW.

so no need to fill FV full?
Incidently have you tried inverting the FV using the method you describe when it doesnt have a tap?

Don't see the need to fill the FV personally.Addled Jim wrote:so no need to fill FV full?

And because of the gas produced by the Oxi, then inverting the FV if there's nowhere for the gas to escape isn't a good idea

Re: Oxi Whiz
I use Oxi or Soda crystals and I just tip a "wodge" in and fill whatever I'm cleaning right to the brim with hot water from the tap. Leave it for 20 minutes and then tip it out and rinse well. As long as you have scraped off any obviously thick crud beforehand it doesn't need any scrubbing.
I really couldn't say how much oxy I use. Maybe half a mug for a 50 litre FV and a couple of tablespoons for a cornie.
Although in your first post you do say that the FV was cleaned after the previous brew so you don't really need to do any more cleaning beyond tipping out the dead spider and wiping away any dust. Then treat it with your usual sanitiser.

ok,I'll go for the vigorous shake and lay on its side with the lid shut and rotate a few times as well, then go in with the cloth
Re: Oxi Whiz
Yes its well cleaned, will use the Oxi, then use StarSan for the first time; may be some more questions tomorrow!!boingy wrote:I use Oxi or Soda crystals and I just tip a "wodge" in and fill whatever I'm cleaning right to the brim with hot water from the tap. Anyone know if this stuff eats/weakens rubber seals & washers on the S30 valve?
