Wheat Flour

Post by markbatten » Mon Jun 25, 2007 7:26 pm

I have just been reading up on "Marcs Pale Ale" p132 (Real Ales For The Home Brewer) with a view to brew at the weekend.
One of the ingredients for the mash tun is wheat flour.
Is this the same as the stuff we have at home in the cupboard as supplied by Fred from Homepride?

I can't spell and it has appeared twice??

Yeah, it's a fairly unusual ingredient but not unheard of. It's a starch like any other so it will convert in the mash. How much does the recipe show? I would tend to sift it on the surface of the mash before stirring in to avoid doughballs.

Marc posts on here sometimes so maybe he'll chime in.

I find that putting whole wheat from the brew shop through the food processor works well and there is less of a chance it will cause a stuck mash
