Murphy's water treatment recommendations

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

Murphy's water treatment recommendations

Post by Tippler » Sun Mar 17, 2013 4:49 pm

I am intending to get my tap water tested by Murphy & Son, but can anyone who has had this done tell me if the recommendations they make for water treatment can be carried out with just AMS/CRS and gypsum? I get all my supplies from the MaltMiller and this is all he has in terms of water treatment.

It may have changed but I was given the raw analysis numbers, which you can then plug into various calculators if you want, and also a recommendation for CRS and DLS (or AMS and DWB in Murphy-speak) for the particular styles I had asked about. So if you are lazy, like me (and quite a few successful micros), you can just follow the CRS and DLS suggestion and brew great beer. I've chosen to ignore the chemists and control freaks on here who insist you must analyse and recalculate everything every time and I just blindly follow that initial analysis. And the beer is great. So as far as my water treatment is concerned, it ain't broke...

I'm pretty sure Murphys are happy to offer more suggestions if you want to use individual salts so don't be shy of asking.

If you are outside of the UK it is best to call our sales team and place the order for the liquor analysis over the phone and they can take your payment there and then. Thanks.
