Hi all
I'm still in the process of getting to know different hops. Next on the list are Galaxy and Challenger. Below is the recipe I've put together for Challenger. I would like advice from people who already know this hop. The recipe currently uses all 100g I have and is geared up to be a bitter, with some small amounts of roasted malts for complexity. However, I could just easily brew an IPA-ish type thing if that is better suited to the hop, or to an exercise in "using loads of a hop to understand what it tastes like" such as this. This is just a starting point for a collective brainstorm. All help and advice is much appreciated, as always.

I think you're good to go. A couple of years ago I had an all challenger beer that was pretty good. Challenger reminds me a bit of goldings, which is probably why they work so well together.
I'm just here for the beer.

I always think of Challenger like Northdown but not quite as nice. Challenger works nice too in beers where you would just use a bittering addition at or around 35 ibus.
Re: Challenger Recipe - your advice please
I added challenger to a lager with saaz by accident and it came out not too bad, flavour moved away from a lager taste to something else but couldnt describe it as overly unpleasant a bit like a lithuanian beer!!(if that helps)
Re: Challenger Recipe - your advice please
It blends beautifully with cascade or delta or any of the cascade type hops and makes a great pale coloured bitter
