Hi Simon, always a little daunting when you start out but you picked a good place for advice. To get the best out of it can I suggest you start with the tabs above, you should find a lot of information there. There is also quite a few how to's. If you have a more specific area of brewing, use the search function, there are very few questions that have never been asked before (top right of the tabs). If you do have a very narrow question that you can't find an answer to then a specific post in that section should yield quite a few answers. I notice you have posted this in the extract brewing section so assume it is extract you intend to brew with, correct?

I'm also intrigued by your comment on using a water heater to turn into a cooler, how are you doing that, what are you using?

Hi Simon, +1 to the above advice...

my 2ps worth is, Single Malt and Single Hop or 'Smash' brews are very popular,
brewing one will reveal the taste and nuances of the hop you select (Challenger is a Great Smash Hop imho) And using just a pale malt for the grain bill is easier and cheaper than buying half a dozen specialty grains to add the particular colour and flavour required for whatever recipe. the basic pale malt clean malty flavour is grand in its own right imho..

ps i read cooler as a typo/autocorrect err for boiler ;)

have fun on your first brewday, and dont let any hiccups stall you we all screwup something on the first brew, thankfuly the beer gods smile on brewers and as beer wants to be made it can be very forgiving of screw ups.. just be ocd about cleanliness and RINSING and very ocd about sanitation for everything post boiler ;)
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(
