Started well with freshly ground coffee

Flat battery on scales was overcome with old tech

1ml of water = 1g for lighter weights

stable recirc at 66 before raising to mash in temps

grain in the pipe, half quantity recipe from here viewtopic.php?f=5&t=56797&p=596843&hili ... de#p596449
With hop weighting for my low AA compared to average range for Czech Saaz, (NB AA not quoted on recipe so erred on the higher side due to previous extract batch tasting and personal preference)

Bang on the money

3 point monitoring of upward recirc mash all within .1 of a degree

Following last times upward recirc stuck mash with too fine a top screen I spent many hours widening the holes, so now it flows more freely, but I get more of this instead....

One of many filter cleans

and again, pre pump y strainer

Conversion complete, wound up the pipe to drain, it then thought :thk
Brew day is going so well, why not do some step temp rise experiments to a mash out, lowered the pipe back in, caught the rim AGAIN :FFS !!! & loose grains in the kettle GRRrrrr.....

Draining the kettle via the malt pipe as a filter

Spent grain with fine particles from top filter plate

Top filter plate with enlarged holes, still clogging is evident, but much better than before & wort is super clear on re-circ.
Noticed some of the mini "wort volcanoes" BM users have experienced during the mash recirc this time though.

Approaching the boil

Breaking point

Crazy boil with 2.4kW element and hop sprocket sat directly above to get boil in hop tube, definitely need to modulate element power..

Another shot of the fine matter in the sieve.
Findings / Conclusions,
It works

It produces super clear wort, until you catch the grain pipe :bangh:
Step mash principle works well by using kettle probe to increase by 1-2 degrees at a time & monitor on malt pipe probe till achieved in pipe then repeat.
Upward recirc frees up lots of small particles because of floating mash which a grain bed would normally trap.
Need to pay more attention to size of crush of grain from my choice of 2 homebrew shops & buy from one best suited to system or grind my own.
More trials required to dial in repeatability re volumes
Need to modulate power of element for during boil, over 3L boiled off during 75 mins!!! No DMS thats for sure!
Need to evaluate pump particle capability / filters / hole size & experiment further.
Questions
Any thoughts / sugestions?
Need some small accurate scales for hop weighing, any recommendations?
Cheers all.
