HOBGOBLINS (EBC's and EBU'S)

Post by TAXMACKEM » Wed Oct 24, 2007 6:37 pm

Hi all,

After only about 35 years drinking beer, after joining here I'm starting to take more notice of what I drink !!!

I'm not very familiar with the real ales, and just used to John Smiths or whatever in the pub.
While in Lidl's today returning my crap scales,to my suprise found boxes of hobgoblin near the till. Woohoo I said, thats a name I've seen on the site ! Duly bought one " for research purposes" as I found it quite difficult to explain to Garth what type of beer I LIKE !

I tend to like darker beers with more body, and because I'm not used to the EBU ratings, would like to know how HG is classified, as it seemed my sort of colour, so would give me a reference point for others .

Good flavour too, might even do it for my first ever mash soon.

Well I have it down as about 28 IBU in my clone recipe but don't know for sure that is right.

That's what it says in the 1997 edition of the real ale almanac.

In 300 beers to try before you die the Hobgoblin entry mentions 40 colour units, don't know how dark that is in EBC, does it sound about right?
