Noob kit brew day with pics! 28/10/07

Finally popped my brewing cherry tonight with a Cooper's Dark Ale and a kilo of Light Spray Malt. Oo-err.

Used the supplied yeast (made into a starter, cheers DaaB) but I've got an ale yeast in reserve just in case.

OG was 1042 although I could hardly see the reading for froth, where's Frothblower when you need him?

the smell took me right back to being nine or ten years of age, used to walk passed Gibbs Mew on the way to swimming lessons every Wednesday. Weird how a smell brings back a forgotten memory.

Yeah, that happened this morning!

Came down to find no head at all and no (apparent) action.

No, it never had a day to start with!

Even with plenty of lemonade it still tastes like dishwasher cleaner. Still only one bottle to go... I'm not wasting it, it has alcohol in.

Needn't have worried about the lack of action, there's been froth spewing out of the cracked lid for two days now.

Kegged it yesterday and dry hopped it with 15g Goldings this morning.

Tasted alright from the hydrometer sample.

Got down to 1.010 on the hydrometer which translates to a nice 4.2%.
