What's the difference
What's the difference
I bought Royalty blends no rinse sanitizer 1kg for £13 I also got some cheap Astonish Oxy active non bio I think it not scented 625g £2 they look identical are they or what the difference please
Re: What's the difference
They are the same. Takes a bit of digging for the "Royalty Blends" stuff but eventually found reference to it leaving a harmless residue:
I've never been a fan of using it as a sanitiser; there just isn't a large amount of peroxide evolved (less than half-percent in the "normal" dose rates), but it's a fabulous cleaner. Just mix it, use it, and pour it away. Don't keep the spent residue to reuse (some do!). Used in large concentrations it will strip water-based gloss paint! I buy generic stuff in 40-50 kilo sacks [EDIT: What a liar! 20-25Kg sacks, and they are quite heavy enough] (eBay) which puts the price of <1Kg packs into price perspective.
I refuse to believe it's a "no rinse" sanitiser; the residue is highly alkaline (but not "caustic") and smells of damp laundry (not surprising, there's loads of the stuff in damp laundry!). I do use hydrogen peroxide as a no-rinse sanitiser. But it's tricky stuff. Not much written about it (homebrew usage) but way more destructive to bugs than "bleach". Looks and feels exactly like water but it's not kind to skin (treats skin like bugs), nor eyes, though not as dangerous as caustic soda.
Which is what Sodium Percarbonate leaves after it shakes off the hydrogen peroxide bit (the sodium carbonate is an effective cleaner to, just needs a bit of elbow-grease once the peroxide is gone). The Peroxide is gone after 15 - 120 minutes, it's not a "sanitiser" then. Please Note:
There may be a harmless trace of sodium carbonate that remains on the equipment after the process.
It is personal preference if decide to rinse this off. It will disappear eventually.
