Guinness extra stout

Ok Im sat in the house, SWMBO is away to Dublin for the day so im going to fire up the boiler and brew up some of the black stuff.
Recipe from the clone brews book (5 US gallons).

Pale malt 2.7 Kg
Roast Barley 0.34 Kg
Crystal malt 120 EBC 0.113 Kg
Flaked Barley 0.563 Kg
oat husks 0.25 Kg

mash 66 C for 75 90 mins

At start of 90 min boil

Target 8.5 % 28g
EKG 5 % 14g

Ferment with nottingham

im going to struggle to hit my gravity on this brew, i don't think the flaked barley had the decency to give up its sugars, might have to increase the boil length to two hours to get into the right sort of ballpark.

All done and dusted 1042 (about 4.5 gallons US), seemed to lose a lot to the target hops (seemed to be bits of the flower rather than whole flowers) which did their damndest to block the hopper.

It has been awhile since I did a stout or porter - I should try and fit one in later this winter.

had a sneaky taster out of the hydrometer, tastes great already, its really quite like guiness ie an easy drinking stout without any great deal of complexity.
