Cant wait to do this.....

Ok I have just bought 24L of Somerfield cheapo apple juice along with 2kg of sugar!!, will this juice be ok for TC?

I want to get this going tonight, I only have a pot of youngs beer and wine yeast. How much do you guys recommend to use is it 1 teaspoon per Litre as per instructions on side of bottle?

Thanks

Should be fine, but 1kg of sugar is likely to be plenty

I tend to use half a sachet of yeast (mainly s-04) to a gallon, which would be about 1 tsp per gallon, not sure about youngs beer yeast however....

So do I boil up the sugar first in water or apple juice?

I may just give this yeast a shot.

Do you think my 5 gallon fermenter can accommodate 24L of this bubbling mass?? I have heard it goes quite wild!

After fermenting can I just stick it in a pressure barrel?

I'd dissolve in it a few litres of juice

Pretty much any yeast will work.... including bread yeast

well.... not all at once, no :P Probably the best bet would be to start with 18l or so, and top up once the initial beserk fermentation slows down.

Pretty much, although if you want to serve it sparkling, it would pay to save a litre or so of juice to use as priming sugar (or force carbonate)

Crossbow,

I diluted the 1kg of sugar in 4L of apple juice and re-hydrated the yeast and threw it all in!!! Added 18L of the juice will add the other 6L like you said when its calmed down a bit.

What %ABV should I be expecting out of this beauty. SG was about 1080! What does TC usually finish at?

Thanks for your help again

sorry to jump on thread but I got one little question I bought a packet of wine yeast and threw it in my TC but after reading the packet it states that the packet will make up to 5 gallons  will this harm my TC?

Mine have finished at 1.000 down to 0.996, assuming 1.00 as a baseline, 1080 would give about 10%!
Of course thats before you dilute it (a little) with more juice, and i'm not sure how best to calculate that :P

Ah I forgot I was going to add another 6L when its calmed down a bit!!
That will definitely bring the SG down a bit then.

Still, I cant wait to see there faces at Xmas after having a few of these "weak" cider drinks

It's going mental as we speak

Well its been fermenting quite well, it did stop for a few days but yesterday came back into life and has fermented down to a SG 1000 :D

I will check again tomorrow to see if it has stopped, I am going to bottle it in 1L PET bottles. Shall I just prime with apple juice, if so how much? Do you think this will clear in time for New Years eve?

I use 30ml of apple juice in a 500ml PET bottle, double should do the trick.

Mine clears before I bottle it.

It'lll be fine to drink cloudy.

I have just bottled my TC and primed as you have said, do I leave in the warm for a few days then outside in the cold or do they go straight out?

BTW It does not taste too bad, my Mrs pulled a funny face when she tried some though :?

The finish SG is 0.996

We had our first proper taste of the TC tonight, its cleared quite nicely in the 1L bottles and tastes quite good. Not much fizz , I expected a bit more, maybe a bit more apple juice to prime with next time.
