I can't believe that this forum that, up to now, I have viewed as being for real men brewing real ale, a den of masculinity dripping with testosterone, has declined to such depths as to become a place for recommending kitchen appliances. And, with pictures :o

What's next? A discussion about the pro's and cons of bleach over oxygen-rich cleaning fluids? Oh my god we're already there

How much if anything will I save if I switch from my electrim boiler to using a gas burner and 5 gallon stainless stockpot?

If you have to have kitchen appliances you may as well make sure they are usefull and not just for heating up a pan of beans
The bravado is all well and good but when Mrs DaaB recognises that twinkle in your eyes.....it's curtains

Unless of course, the terrier has been trained to protect it's true beer meister  :D :D

I thought i'd share the suggestion of the gas burnerfor those less fortunate as its probably easier to slip one of those into the kitchen rather than one of these

That's very similar to the burner I use (and I have got a Mrs. Zebra). It works very well but doesn't half chomp through gas. It's early days but I think a 4.5 kg bottle will do 4 or 5 5gal brews.

About £11, I think. I have to admit that I haven't run the cylinder dry yet as I always err on the side of caution, not wanting to run out mid boil so maybe I'm wrong. I've got a couple of other cylinders I need to sort out regulators for then I can run the 4.5kg one dry. The burner does give off loads of heat though!
