Old english hop blend
Been given 100g of the bushel of hops old english hop variety any one got any recipes to use with them.
Got wuiete a few other english hops like fuggles challenger goldings and ekg and admiral. Plus sum keyworth mid

I’d just go simple and brew a bitter, or maybe an ESB. Go old school with Chevallier as base malt with just a bit of torrified wheat and a dash of light crystal. Use an ESB yeast and ferment cool to keep esters low so the hops shine.

Maybe sum 20g of challenger to start then 25g each of goldings and this hop blend then maybe a further 25g each as a nolice little dry hop ?

Its a blend of 5 varieties. Two of these now come under the EKG banner (Cobb and Early Bird) so you could be getting these when you order EKG anyway. Fuggle speaks for itself. White Grape is no longer grown in any quantity, except at ABOH and my garden. And Mathon is probably the oldest commercial English hop.
So to compliment them brew a Bitter and just use Goldings or Fuggle to back it up. Try Windsor yeast.

You’ll get very little hop character coming through from the first bittering addition, so Challenger is a good choice for this purpose. We use it for pretty much all our 1st additions at work.
I’d probably chuck EKG and Fuggles in at 30 mins then use your blended variety for your aroma additions at 5 mins, then leave to steep at flameout for 30 mins before chilling.

Just thinking of keeping it historic, so use Golding or Fuggle to bitter with as well.

in an american ipa sure, but elsewhere you might be suprised. challenger especially for me i use to bitter for the flavour carryover

Even in a bitter with 30 min and flameout additions I think you’ll be hard pushed to get any flavour difference from the bittering hops. You will get a difference in the type of bitterness for sure, but flavour - I very much doubt it. You might notice a small difference when only using a single hop addition and nothing more, but otherwise I’m not convinced.

I've brewed with these twice now and they are predominantly floral with a bit of fruit, so I would keep a fairly simple pale malt bill and use them at the start and late. The two brews I've done were 1040 and 1045 both based on old AK/PA recipes using 77.5% pale, 10% invert, 7.5% flaked maize and 5% flaked barley (to give a bit of graininess from what would have been originally a proportion of 6 row). Just try to keep the delicateness of the hop flavour rather that mess it up with other additions, and 100g of hops will do just fine.

I'd use 50g at 90 mins, 25g at 15 mins and 25g post boil steep. The hops are probably around 4.5% AA.
