Brew day woes

Post by erebus » Fri Mar 21, 2008 10:28 pm

As I poured the first half of my batch sparge collection back into my boiler and smelt a burnt toast/caramel smell I realise I should have let the element cool down a bit. :(

Luckily my element didn't cut out, and everything is carrying on smoothly so far, but I'm wondering how this might effect the final taste of my brew.

I'm brewing a Hobgoblin, so a slightlly caramel taste wouldn't exactly hurt. Can anyone with more experience than me suggest exactly how this mistake will effect the brew, if at all?

Thats not a Brewday Woe, if you want a brewday woe look here Like Daab says I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. During that brew I had the Wort scorch on the RIMS heater, and the emergency element I fitted to the underback . . . If I've got a burnt taste it should show here ;)
