Up first thing in the morning
At last, a chance to put some normality in my life after the recent pc problems. Forbidding any disasters tonight, I will be up well before first light to set this brew away.
Pale Malt 2992g
Crystal Malt 300g
Amber Malt 214g
Wheat Malt 256g
Torrified Wheat 170g
Brewing Sugar 342g
Target hops start of boil 42g (11% alpha acid)
Goldings hops 16g last 15 mins
Goldings hops 6g at end of boil, leave for 30 mins before cooling.
Gervin ale yeast
This is based on a "Shepherd Neame" type beer, OG est 1044 @ 79% effiency, 40 bittering units. I have made a beer using these grains /sugar before, this is the first time I have used Target hops for bittering, just fancied a change from Challenger/Goldings/Fuggles this time.

When I'm back at work I'm in London before it's light at the moment....I live in Norfolk....yes I get up that early!Calum wrote: However, "up before first light" isn't very impressive in the middle of winter. You could wake up, have a cup of coffee, watch the end of the days play from Melbourne and then read the paper and it would still be dark

I'm afraid that I am going to be boring again, no glitches to report, achieved intended gravity, a smooth process from start to finish. I started at 5:00am, all finished, yeast pitched & equipment cleaned & put away by 12:30. My son has taken some photos with his new cameraphone, for some strange reason he did not share my enthusiasm for getting up early so I only have the finished wort & some photos of my set up to show everyone.

Today's work.

King kegs fitted with flip top taps & Widget gas system.

Boiler, Mash tun & cfc wort cooler.

Wine racks, can hold 128 bottles in total!

Small wine rack & fridge.

Creamflow extensions with sparklers, if you put them at the bottom of your glass/tankard & lower it as you are filling it up it gives a nice tight guiness type head, you can unscrew them & screw the sparkler onto the standard tap if you wish to do so. Mrs H bought them for me 3 years ago for Christmas. What are the extra long spouts on the King Kegs?

Well, here is the finished beer, while the bulk went into my king keg I do like to bottle a couple of pints of each brew, you never know when you need a favour off someone, the offer of a couple of these usually does the trick!
This was started 28/12/06, transferred to a budget barrel for conditioning 3/1/2007, transferred to king keg & a couple of bottles today.
