My 5 minute sparge arm, a piece of 15mm copper pipe with the end belted flat. Lots of 1mm holes drilled. :D[/quote]
Collected 32LTRS, although I allowed some of the turbid last runnings into the boiler.

Cooled brew, ran off into fermenter, lots of hops.....Mmmm.....Not a lot of cold break in here :?
Hang on a moment, there are still 10 protofloc tablets in the packet #-o
Nevermind, smells good! :D

Well, here she is. 24 Ltrs collected at 1046. I was aiming for 23 Ltrs at 1052. Perhaps I should have boiled it a little bit longer.
It's a tad murky as well, not to worry.......Mmmm.......Smells good! :D

Here it is this morning, fermenting nicely, along with POP's stout that I made as well. No starter made, just sprinkled the dried yeast straight on the surface of the brew.

Now, I wonder? If I bottle my good lady's elderflower wine, she might, just might, cook me a whacking great fry up. :D

Sorry about the quality of some pictures, if any of you have any comments of how I could improve things, especially about getting my sparge efficiency up, I would love to hear them. :D
Take care all, I'm off to sniff my bucket!!! :D

I'm coming down to burgle your house and pinch all them 10 gal placcy bins, you have far too many of them.....

they make great fermenters for high gravity brews

good pics, hope the finished beer is as good

There's some marking on the element in an earlier pic, is that rust or scotching ? It might explain why it wouldn't get above 85 deg c. If it's rust, then i'd ditch it, if it's scorching it might be ok if you clean it up.
Thankyou both for your comments, I always ferment in oversize buckets since the incident where I had yeast crawling up the wallpaper.
I recieved a clout around the ear 'ole and had to redecorate.

The element is just scorched, It was clicking on and off yesterday at 85C. I shall try cleaning it and see what happens. It makes sense, I wish I'd had thought of that.

My first brew that I have added water treatments, Gypsum, salt and epsom salts. Mash PH 5.7. Still got work to do on that side of things.

I have used safale04, it's the first time I have used it, normally a gervin for me. I can certainly notice a difference with the smell, it's a lot more fruity. :D

Cheers lads, hope they turn out ok. Can't wait for the next brew day. :D
