Gouden Aap - 1/10/08

Post by EportJake » Thu Oct 02, 2008 11:53 am

Todays brewday was probably the most hectic and yet somehow also the most successful! I decided at 1pm to brew despite the horrific weather, the match starting at 7.45 and the dinner to make for my girl and me. Despite these obstacles the brew came out on volume and with the expected OG (and Liverpool won!). All in all a tiring but successful day.

Gouden Aap (22L - enough for a corney and a couple of bottles for Roger the Dog  )

5480g Pilsner 2 row Belgian
392g Carapils
195g Diastatic amber malt
195g Crystal (60L)
590g Candi sugar, light

40g Styrian (75 mins)
26g Saaz (15 min)
13g Saaz (1 min)

White labs Belgian golden ale 2.3L starter

OG 1.068, FG 1.015, Colour 15.2, Bitterness 27.4 IBU
7% alcohol

The mash, started at 67 down to 66.
Image
Cooling of the boiled wort to 24. The hop strainer was quite well behaved for a change!
Image
The yeast starter made 3 days in advance. I took a 330ml split for further use and pitched the rest.

I think the aeration was a success!

OG 1.070, a little higher than expected. My efficiency is improving! Should be around 7.2%. :D
One for xmas I reckon (if it lasts that long).
