Out of Date?

Post by Scott » Sun Jan 11, 2009 5:24 pm

I have been given a homebrew kit (it's stout which isn't usually my thing but it is free so thort i'd give ot a go) but it is out of date.

anyone got any idea which part will be out of date?

If it is something that can be replaced then i'll just change it.

I'd just brew it regardless, it'll likely be absolutely fine.

How far out of date?

I would change the yeast.

It's about 4-5months out.

Will change the yeast and give it a go.

Thanks.

I didn't a Wherry recently that was out of date in August 2008 and the malt made the brew a lot darker than the normal Wherry so you may find the same.

Get it brewed - I've made a kit that was several years out of date and the only thing I changed was the yeast.

I was surprised to find that the yeast in my kit which was at least two years old was fine so you never know although a spare yeast might come in handy.

It was free and its only a few months out of date.
Go on. Live dangerously! Brew it with the original yeast.
