Coopers Real Ale / Brewferm Gold

Post by BWT » Sun Jan 18, 2009 1:39 pm

Good afternoon folks
I put the above on a week past today it had reached a gravity of 1.006 (started 1.044) by Friday it has remained there since is it therefore safe to assume it has finnised and safe to bottle? If so i intend to bottle in glass can i simply throw these in the bath with some thin bleach to steralise them?
Re the Brewferm gold the instuction say to ferment at 25c could i use a lager yeast say S23 and ferment it in the loft current temp12-15c?

If it's been stable at 1.006 since Friday then it'll be ready for bottling.
Thin unscented bleach can be used but I'm not sure of the ratio to water, maybe someone else that uses thin bleach will advise.
Brewferm Gold has become one of my regulars, I use Saflager S23 with good results and at those current loft temps of 12-15c it will be fine.

Candy sugar is basically the same as granulated sugar (Tate & Lyle etc). Now I know it's the general belief that granulated sugar can cause the brew to be thin and taste a little cidery but I've used both candy and granulated in lighter coloured Brewferm kits with no noticable difference and will now only use granulated as it's readily available, it's cheaper and it does the same job.

Trust me, sugar to use with the lighter coloured Brewferm kits = white granulated sugar!
As you already have candy then use that but make sure it fully disolves.
