Aup Guy, hows it going?

Nice work in the christmas brew, mines boiling awa nicely, just waiting for the big Xmas hit attue the last 15 minutes,

I made a last minute decision not to add the star anise, I kept getting that little star out, smelling it and thinking . . .do I really want that spice in the brew? Aniseed? Will it be too much? Will it make or break it? Hmmm maybe for anoher day I think.

I was going to do festive fist fight again, but I didn't have the cystal malt I needed and didint have the hops, plus my missus doesn't like dark ales so I thought sod it all make up something new, I'm hoping it will turn out good!

Brew day is going nce and smooth, just he usual cock ups, wet floor from open tap, and in the excitment of my pump working first time round, forgot to put the second batch sparge water on the the heat so had to wait around, and I've just remembered I've got to put a tea spoon of gypsum nthe boil. . Best do that now

Cheers mate. All the best

Aup!

Hows the brew day coming along?

My first AG went well - no taps left open.... The only thing that didnt go smoothly was the sparging plus I underestimated my losses to evaporation and to trub & hops...

The Brew a Porter is now bottled and I'm looking forward to getting stuck into it!
I have AG#2 lined up for next weekend - I'll be having a bash at GW's WhiteShield Clone - as I have the Northdown hops opened and I like a good IPA...

Cheers!

All done now, the OG was 1.056 , so better then expected,

Glad to hear your all graining now, i think its quite common to fall short on your volume on your first all grain, ive seen a few mention it on here and i did that myself on my first all grain brew,

i tried white shield for the first time last weekend, i saw it in morrisons so i grabbed a couple of bottles, i hate to say it but i was very disapointed :(
i thought it was abit bland and had a 'canned bitter' taste to it, but thats just me

and dont worry at least once in your brewing life you are sure to leave at least one tap open !

Oh I've left taps open before....

Usually when I'm sanitising/rinsing my FV...

I like Whiteshield have done for some time.... I have had the odd bottle that was a 'bit off'... Not sure if its a storage issue by the supermarket or if the cap seal had gone... but I generally find its a good brew, but I will add more hops to steep at the end as I like a more hoppy style in an IPA

:D

Glad to hear the brewday went well, 1056 that should be a good winter warmer then!

Cheers!
