First BIAB Recipe

Post by jimp2003 » Mon Mar 07, 2011 6:12 pm

Hi everyone!

I plan to dip my toe into the BIAB waters this weekend and would appreciate it if any of the old heads out there would cast their eye over this recipe that I am thinking of using just in case there is a glaring problem.

My head is telling me I should try a few simple brews first to get my technique up to scratch but my heart says "to hell with that - life's too short" - The heart wins.

I have used the BIAB calculator to get the volumes etc and the recipe itself is taken from one of the members of a US homebrew forum.

Black IPA

Might also dry hop but not sure how much - any suggestions?

I look forward to hearing what you think.

Hi

Looks good to me

I always get a starter yeast going.

If I was to dry hop I would use Cascade about 30gm to 60gms for about a week, after the primary fermentation has stopped.

Thanks Mark!

A starter is part of my plan - partly because of the relatively high OG and partly because I don't usually spend the best part of £6 on yeast for a brew and did not want it to fail.

Cascade is a good candidate for the dry hopping. Would I gain anything by mixing some Amarillo in there or would it get lost do you think?

Hi

To me they are both very similar, expect Amerillo is a bit harsher. So I would just use cascade.

But then I am a bit of a cascade fan.
