Hey Ditch have you thought about just using cling film [glad wrap] or whatever its called where you are, for lids I know a lot of guys over here youse it on there fermenters, Instead of a lid its already clean and when used throw it away each time no cleaning up needed.

Would you consider it more sanitary than a black plastic screw-cap?

Good point, well made.

Fresh bit of CF could be more hygenic. It has incredible stretchyness too.

Just remember to throw the first inch or so away. More sterile that way, or at least that's the advice given about using cling film for burns/scalds. I suppose it applies here too.

Just sayin....

Just FYP .....

Anyone who's even taken a cursory glance at this thread will be well aware that we know about The Spew. If it can pop a sealed down lid off, I don't think much imagination would be required to foresee the potential of sealed down cling film. It could get ugly.

What I actually envisage doing is piercing the CF at the edge rim of the FV. This, I'm reasoning, will cause the spew to concentrate on that 'weak point' and allow it to push out there and come down the outer side of the FV.

Enter The Pesticle .....

I see. I've never registered those before. Think I automatically take them to be wine, or 'secondary' kit.

Well, I've slept on the idea but, it's no good; I can't bring myself to think I'd be better off with that style.

Line of sight, see? With my plain buckets I can peer in and see everything. With that type, it'd be practically an act of faith to reckon it was clean up under that shoulder. As it is, of course, with my BK's. But, I don't much like them either, to be honest :|

Wonder what would happen, if I put my stuff in one of those things and screwed the lid on tight! F**king hell! Talk about testing The Big Bang Theory! Image

Well Ditch, I must say that when I make Stout in one of them my spew comes up through the hole in the lid, runs down the side and is caught in my spew-trug. The area is then wiped up and re-covered. It also all comes down one side enabling spew-sterilisation measures to be concentrated on one area. :)

I don't know why but I have not had spewing problem with my fv but after spew could you not replace cling film with a new piece .

I think that is the idea. I believe is the conundrum is more is it worth bringing cling film into the mix?

I'm hearing you but my reason for suggesting it is because Ditch seemed to having problems with lids
