Hop strainer

Post by mysterio » Wed Jan 10, 2007 9:37 pm

I've been having trouble with my hop strainer lately, ever since i've started chilling the wort inside the boiler and allowing the hops to form a bed. When I do this, the wort slows down to a trickle within seconds especially when brewing a beer with alot of hops.

Would sawing a few more slots in the strainer help? Or should I buy/build something else.

Sorry about the rubbish picture...

Wow mind reading, deja vu, voodoo
I went and bought these bits today and was going to ask whether slots or holes :?

Question answered :D
Never had a hop strainer before :(
I just placed the back of the spoon over the inlet of the tap and let the hops settle

I put it over the copper pipe before I screw it on.
The dip tube finishes around 3/8 of an inch above the bottom of the keg so it stays there.

Tubby, I'd say with yours it'd be easier to cut slots than drill holes.

i use a rolled up (like a cigar) splatter guard jammed into the back on the tank connector. it has never come out and works a treat!

I'm using a 12 cm piece of flexible stainless hose. The remaining length is my strainer for my mash. Cheap and easy.
