Sherwoods finest woodland ale done a "muntons"

Post by mh75 » Fri Oct 26, 2007 10:52 pm

My woodland ale has been in the fv for over 10 days now i think its pulled a 'Muntons' and stuck at 1016 :( no bubbles or nuthin!

Gonna try a few things from Daab's post 'Help My Beer Has Stopped Fermenting ' hope it works.

That doesn't sound too high. My Fixby Gold was bottled at about 1016 with 50g priming sugars and is doing well... no exploding bottles or anything yet and doesn't half taste good!

A gentle stir didnt do anything. I havent any dme or any of the brupaks dry beer enzyme stuff so ive made a starter up this morning with some Gervin ale yeast, hoping it will do the trick.

When i stated the brew the other week it didnt seem to create alot of foam like some other brews ive seen on here :( I.m thinking i didnt aerate it enough?

Mine got down to 1015.

The instructions set a target of about 1010 I think. This is a little low in my opinion since:

1. It is a 3.6 kg kit.

2. It is a dark kit.

Mine tasted great at 1015...son don't worry. It'll be fine.

Let me know how you added the hops. I dry hopped after 7 days in the fermenter and left it for another 7 days.

This was one of my best kits yet. I just wished that I'd saved a few bottles.

Id be tempted to bottle/keg at 1016 if it doesnt move over the next 24 hours. Its not ridiculously far off the mark.

Cheers fellas, if it hasnt dropped by tonight then ill start bottling it tomorrow.
Let me know how you added the hops. I dry hopped after 7 days in the fermenter and left it for another 7 days.
I put about 2/3 of the hops into about 200ml of boiling water, left for a bout 15 mins then added this to the wort when it had cooled(about day 7 i think) I also added the remaing 1/3 straight into the FV at the same time, sorry i did this tbh since they have brocken up and just float about making my beer look C**p :? I fished most of then out with a sanitised sieve the other day while trying to get the beer fermenting again. Next time i think i would just pitch them all into the boiling water

Theres a few bubbles on the surface(but not many) so i assume something is happening :o

I'll keep ya posted on how it turns out

Just a quick update.

May have dropped down a bit to 1015 but its hard to tell, still fermenting since every now and then a buble or two is produced through the airlock(allready fitted to fv)
The starting hg was about 1046 so i think it may be abit weak(4% instead of 5.2 as per instructions) if it only stops at 1016-1015. So i think ill persist for a bit, I've also ordered some spraymalt and dry beer enzyme so might use those if need be. Unless ive had enough by the weekend and just bottle it up
