I used spraymalt on my last 2 kits does this affect the OG reading ? and also is the OG reading just a guideline or does it mean you did something wrong if you dont get the recommend OG for your kit.

just to be sure we're talking the same language

OG = Original Gravity (i.e. when kit first mixed up)
FG = Final gravity (i.e. the gravity once the yeast has finished fermenting)

OG is basically a measure of the concentration of fermentable sugar in your wort. So yes, adding extra spaymalt will give a higher OG so long as you make it up to the same volume.

However, if you mean that you used spraymalt instead of sugar or glucose/dextrose/brewers sugar then it will make very little difference. You will likely end up with a slightly higher FG as spraymalt is less fermentable (so giving more body to the beer).

You should get to within a couple of points of the manufacturers OG (if stated). If you're widely out then its most likely down to inaccurate measurement of the volume on your fermenter.

It's possible that you haven't fully disolved the malt and dme or not stirred enough to mix it well.
