That's really going well now :D Your yeast in a small bowl looks unusual - was that made us from dried yeast? Did you make a starter?

bob, it's liquid yeast from my local brewery. I just pitch it straight into the FV, no starter required.

Nice one andy great pictures.

Am ready for my first AG tomorrow based on the DL Abbot clone with your adjustments.

Grist warming nicely in airing cupboard. Hope to get an early start but just got back from a 40th birthday party with champers and a barrel of bath Ales gem that had to be tried of course - maybe my 7am start could be delayed

I'm no expert but I believe this could benefit by a skim

We should have a "Fermentation Gallery" as most of what I see on this forum is an art form! ;) :D

I seem to be the main culprit!

Had to skim three times today, I guess it's a tad warm for proper fermentation....

One thing I forgot to comment on is the use of Brupaks CRS and the effects it has on heating elements!

In the HLT the element was constantly producing gas bubbles from its surface and became tarnished/blackened. The boiler element also seemed affected and had a slight coating of slimey material at the end. Wierd!

I've soaked them both in a citric acid solution which has done some good but elements still show lots more tarnishing than before the brew!

CRS is diulte sulphuric acid I believe.

andy, I know this is brewery yeast, but do you find that an all-grain brew produces a more active fermentation that an extract brew would?

john, all the kit brews I've made have used the bog standard yeast which comes with them and fermentation has been no where near as active as what you see in those AG pics - I suspect that's down to both the yeast and the fact that's it's an AG brew.

Yeah, the mad phase has now passed and we're left with a pancake yeast head.

SG today was about 1013 so probably a couple of days fermentation left.

About 3 hrs after that "lively" yeast head pic was taken (and I'd skimmed it) the head went even more ballistic and completely escaped the FV!
