Carbing up my TC

Post by mrdave3000 » Sat Nov 17, 2007 7:43 pm

Hi all,
I started my very first turbo cider about 3 weeks ago.. By the second week the fermentation was pretty much done.

I tasted it on week 2 and wasnt too impressed, although its now week 3 and its tasting great!!!

On week 2 I wanted to try and carb some up before I ended up drinking it all but just cant seem to get it going.

first (1 litre) bottle, I added about 5g sudar and bottled
second (1 litre) bottle, I added about 60ml apple juice and bottled

One week has past and nothing has happened other than it has totaly cleared.

Any ideas what im doing wrong?

If it wont carb up then Im not bithered as it tastes great anyway, just thought it would be good to see how its done.

Was it totally clear when you bottled it...ie, was there any yeast left in solution?

Priming with sugar is usually at a rate of 1tsp (5g) per pint so you'd need 2tsp in a litre

Usually it will take at least a minimum of 2 weeks to prime, preferably 4

Have you let it have a "warm week"?

Mine carbs up a treat with 30ml per 500ml apple juice as a primer, a warm week and then leave it as long as humanly possible in the garage/fridge... about a week max.

It was not totaly clear before putting into bottles, it had only started clearing.

Ive still got 5 litres clearing in a demijohn at the moment still giving out about 1 or 2 bubbles a minute. Im guessing if I want it carbed up for xmas, I would be better bottleing it within he next day or so.

Cheers
Dave
