Looking at a TTL recipe

Post by retourrbx » Sat Nov 17, 2007 11:02 pm

4,460g golden promise pale malt
42g styrian goldings
35 g fuggles hops (both full boil)
goldings hops 15g (last 15 mins)
irish moss 10 gm

Loking at this recipe from a year ago - think it's Wheeler...

Would it make a difference using Marris Otter instead of Golden Promise? If so what?
'Ta :)

What a/a is this based on and I find that TTL has quite a 'presence in the mouth' is this due to the GP?

My GP TTL ended up hazy, the Marris Otter one was crystal clear.
Dan!

were both close to the draught - would you have added anything else (or removed?) what aa were your hops if you can remember?

About the hop utilization - how would I know how different they would be?

Also, the draught TTL I've had has a really hoppy aroma - I achieved a really hoppy Styrian steeping hops for an hour after flame out... which of the hops would I do that with... I assume the Goldings?

Also what alpha acid are the hops used?

Thanks for the input so far :)

My TTL with Golden P came out hazy, too. The next brew I made was 100% maris otter and it was quite a bit darker, almost amber, but clear as a bell.

my experience with GP is that it'll give a beer quite a bit lighter than TTL. given that GP seems to be what is used in TTL, my guess is that if you want to get the colour right, you might want to add some colouring sugars - caramels or molasses perhaps.

i had problems with GP haze as well, as has one of my other brewing friends here in new zealand. i've got a 25kg bag on order right now, so i figure that i've got plenty of chances coming up to get to the bottom of this issue......

I'm hoping to move to NZ next year to teach Science - is there much need for it in the South Island do you know?

retourbxx - dunno, i can ask my wife who just trained to be a teacher. but i would expect so, they always seem to be crying out for teachers, particularly in backward parts (i'm a north islander).

great little breweries in the south island though.

My TTL 'clone' was clear as a bell after a few weeks in the keg. Used MO.

My hop schedule was different
Fuggles for bittering
EKG for flavour
Styrians for aroma.

Damn fine drop, Not the same as TTL but one of my best beers to date.

Still waiting to get my hands on the TTL yeast for my next attempt - any day now.
