Cleaning King Keg equipment

Post by Clovenite » Sun Dec 02, 2007 11:28 am

Hi folks, new to home brewing and got bought a Micro brewery kit recently. To cut a long story short I made a total cock up on my first attempt but, particularly going through your forum,Ive learnt a stack of do's and don'ts and the second attempt is doing what it should be doing, ie fermenting at the correct temp in the fermenting bin. However,on the first I followed the suppliers instructions and fermented in the King Keg.The KK,float system and lid have all got a stale beer smell which I cannot shift. So far,I've used Chemipro Oxi on all the equipment and tried cleaning the float system (the tubing has the strongest smell) twice using the diluted thin bleach method and rinsing really well.I've not tried the actual keg,tap and lid yet in bleach until anyone will advise one way or the other.I cannot get Sodium Met (I live in the middle of nowhere) unless on line but have plenty of water to rinse. It rains a lot in Scotland!!!!Any help appreciated
Cheers

Good man, you've hit the nail on the head, paranoia just about describes it,especially after you've poured away a full keg of the most foul smelling concoction.I'll follow your advise.Good job I'm not on a water meter, the kitchen floor is getting a right good wash this weekend.
