Yes to both :)

I cant really put names to brands but... Silver spoon or anything from british sugar is beet. T&L, The Pantry, Cordelia, Merryfields are all cane.
Now I have to track you all down and kill you.
Dont forget, Gran, caster, TLX, Plain icing and preserving are all the same sugar just different sizes, Light brown and Dark brown are just gran with syrups added. Get whatever is cheapest. Just be wary though Fondant, Royal and some other types of icing have different additives and Jam sugar has added pectin.
God, I need to get out more!

I think there are many of us who would benefit from a little exposure to some fresh air. When I say many of us I mean me of course.

On a lighter note, you are now the official sugar daddy!

Splenda is pure sucralose which is derived from sugar and is hellishly expensive to make so I doubt it could be an "own-brand". It is also the closest to sucrose you will ever get and highly recommended as a sugar supplement if you are ever on the "Fatkins" diet.
It's Maltodextrine and Aspartame.

Gosh, trust Sainsburys to use something different in there ingredients...

Meh, I need to get out more.

So Curious-brew when are you planning to start with the AG brewing? If I scrimp and save from jan, I should be able to begin in march and I really can't wait. I have been told it takes a good 6 hours from start to finish to get your final wort, which is quite daunting. No doubt you will be buying grass seed from homebase and "malting" it in the oven yourself . Seriously though, I can't wait to see some of the recipes you come up with. You have imagination and tireless dedication (from what I can tell from your brewing recipes thus far). No doubt you are going to come up with some real blinders!

I don't think I'll be going AG to quickly unfortunately.

I've two young daughters (two and a half and seven months respectively) and I can't see the wife letting me get away with six hours locked in the garage!

I'm going to have to spread my upgrades and at the moment additional kegs and a cornie set-up are more pressing.

Rest assured, my quest for the perfect pint of TC and a drinkable, nay desirable, alcopop will continue...

...not so much AG as AJ.

If you start brewing early in the morning (in my case 6am) then it's less noticeable to the rest of the family.

Friday night brewing is the way forward. Buy the Mrs a bottle of wine and order in a take away and take over the kitchen / garage for the evening - simple. You don't have to spend the evening hunched over your mash tun you know, once you've doughed in you've an hour and a half to spend with the kids same goes for the boil too.

Go on, you know you want to, I did it on a budget and I'm still using the original "bucket in a bucket" lauter tun and the family cool box to mash in

It'll be the best move you made

Think he's got your number! - just no "dry slug pelletting" for aroma thank you!

On a more serios point, is there a way I can avoid overly dry TC, without sweetners, and still bottle condition? (I'd like slightly sweet, fizzy TC) - I dont have a CK.

cheers..
