Yet another new person to the forum
Hi, not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I thought I'd introduce myself. I've been brewing for about 11 yrs and have made over 150 batches, most of them all grain. I participate on a few other forums and simply am pasionate about beer and brewing it. I hope to be able to contribute here and learn some too. My user name was originally because I was thought to be a bitter person, now I like to think its because I love Bitter!!

Ooh, father Ted, hmm. :blink: Well, tell you what, I'll help you where I can, but bear with me, being an American, I have to get used to some terms and measurements that you folks use. But hey, I joined here mostly because we're all brewers and I absolutely love a good Bitter. And where else to learn how to make a good Bitter than from the source!!

Allo Ted - I must say that I've found a large amount of US homebrew sites to be very inspirational. I feel inadequate with only 5 cornys 
but I do have the compulsory beer keg boil kettle with a big propane burner. Most of the recipe books etc are in american Units so I personally don't bother converting them anyway - just watch out for people using UK gallons

Hey Matt, 5 cornies is a nice number! 20 is just because a friend traded me some stuff for them or else I would have about 5 too. When looking at recipes here, I will assume they are 5 gal UK, thanks for the reminder!!

Just a thought, if you ever fancy earning some extra USD to spend on brewing, you would probably do a good trade in selling spare parts for Cornies to us UK brewers. We can get them here but they can be pricy. There are a few non-UK suppliers (Brewers Discount etc) but all seem to be poor at communicating.
So what sort of brew setup do you use? - I think we're mostly simple single infusion mash here with either batch or fly sparging but you guys in the states seem to go in for HERMS or RIMS systems in a big way.

Hmmm, trading some corny parts, eh! That may be on the horizon! Brewing system, well............. yes, I have a RIMS and it is quite nice eto use , especially when I make lagers and need to make step temp mashes. I have a friend that harrasses me because I don't use decoctions all that much and use the RIMS instead, oh well. But, when making my Bitter, Mild and Porters, I generally pull out the old Igloo cooler and do an infusion mash. Going back and forth between the two set-ups, I get to enjoy a variety of different ways of doing things. Another beauty of the RIMS is when it's running, I get to kick back and smoke a cigar and have a pint while waiting for the next step to finish, it makes for a most relaxing brew session!
You know, I just thought of another trade possibility, I don't know if it'll fly, but being that I can get so many varieties of hops and yeast and maybe even grain, there might be some possibilties there too.
We'll have to ponder this!
