Brewing TC at a lower temperature?

Post by Curious Brew » Thu Dec 13, 2007 12:28 pm

Obviously brewing at a lover temperature (4-16 degrees C) would negate the whole Turbo aspect of the brew but I've heard it would massively increase the flavour.

Any thoughts on this from the more experienced amongst us?

I was wondering this very thing the other night seeing as my flat is bloody freezing!

Well the mead is still ticking over and the heating is off all day and the temp seems to go down below 13 C.

I used a sachet of Ale Yeast from the Old Ale, and a sachet of Saf-04 as the Ale yeast didnt do anything at the start, so nothing fancy here.

Its slow when it cold but speeds up in the evenings with the heating and cooking temperatures. Gets to about 3/4 glugs a minute when warm otherwise its 1/2 glugs a minute.......but its still going :D

i started a batch a week ago doing exactly this.

i have pitched it with WLP775 and its currently outside (so under 5C even down to freezing overnight) but its fermenting well. the smell out the airlock is great. no sulphur at all

it will take a while but who cares.

i will report back once its done
