'Quick' sterilisation of beer paddle

Post by Martin the fish » Tue Jan 08, 2008 8:33 pm

When i need to give my brew a rouse whats the quickest way of sterilising your paddle?

Or if you need to rouse 3 FV's? If i've got to sterilise for half hour each time it means 2 hrs to rouse 3 FV's???

Surely there's a quicker way? Can't i nuke it in microwave? After it's had a clean and rinse for instance?

when I've brewed, the next morning I usually skim off the crap the yeast has flung up, I simply leave the paddle for 10 mins in a heavy glass tankard filled to the brim with iodophor solution, (2.5ml per litre), then when I need it I give it a rinse, skim the beer then rinse it again and back into the solution, ready for the next skim if the beer's chucking a lot of trub up.

Go into the kitchen and nick the stainless-steel frying-pan spatula when she's not looking, then you'll have one too.

I spray mine with iodophor solution and hold it for a couple of minutes before using it. I've always got a spray bottle with solution ready to use.

Kitchen is my domain in our house. Have therefore stolen my own nice shiny metal spatula to use as my dedicated 'shiny rousing device'

Top Tip Graham 8)

I recently went along to on of Dans brew days.
He had a lovely stainless steel paddle for doughing in and rousing.
He bought it from a local Indian wholesaler dirt cheap, and it's really heavy gauge

Rusholme here I come
